The answer to this varies wildly on the reader. The most important aspect of a good blog post for myself is accuracy. This is especially important in my line of work, as I spend quite a bit of time maintaining our network and servers. Bad information can set not only me but the company back and become costly. Another important aspect of a good blog is relatively regularity in posting. Its becoming increasingly more common that readers and watchers will binge there favorite shows or favorite blogs. It will more more likely for a reader to stay at your blog if there is more than just a few minutes of information to be read. Another important thing I find it the lack of fluff. I don't want to have scroll through a novel to find the information I initially searched for. These three aspects I will be looking to include in my blog writing this semester.
Hi Corey,
ReplyDeleteYou have really simplified what a great PLN is and I can't agree more. Your post is strait to the point and you include all good attributes to a great PLN. I am new to the PLN world and I have a lot to learn. I think after ready your blog, I may have a little too much fluff in my posts. I will have to watch out for that in the future. Of course ,I think everybody can agree with the validity of the content. Nobody wants to waist their precious time on bad information. The question is how can one weed out the bad info to the good info? Can't wait to read more!

I think that fluff can make or break a blog for some readers. When it comes to reading gardening blogs I do enjoy the fluff as it makes the reading more enjoyable. Likewise if I am trying to discover the solution to an computer problem I appreciate much more curt and to the point responses.
DeleteP.S. by the way your blog design is awesome, once again, it has made me want to rethink mine.
ReplyDeleteCorey,
ReplyDeleteI agree that bad information is not good for anyone. What I would like to think about is, as you are building followers to your blog or choosing a blog to follow and building your PLN, how would you determine a blog’s or a follower’s credibility? If there was bad information posted on your blog how would you handle it? Based on each case what would you use confrontation, deletion, or even expulsion? How you handle bad information could build your credibility within your PLN.
I've never really written or been in the position where I have to correct bad information I've given out. My personal experience is that if I have found bad information on a site or a blog I will typically avoid it in the future. If a site was to provide me with bad information, but come forward in a timely manner and let me and other readers know there was a mistake I would be more likely to visit there in the future as they've shown integrity. One thing that really puts me off as a reader is lack of self accountability. I hope to include that idea with this blog.
