I apologize for my late posting this week. I've been out of work and class because I've been sicker than a dog. Last week I asked about this situation.
This week topic I wanted to cover a really cool site that I stumbled on while researching ways to improve my blog posts. As author's our blog posts may be read by countless types of people with many types of backgrounds and reading levels. In order to reach the most readers it is important that your writing is easily readable. This website will allow you to put a URL or directly copy and paste the text you want to tested. According to the website the average American's reading comprehension is between 7th and 9th grade level. My blog writings seem to fall within that range which should mean that my blog is at the right level to reach the most readers. One thing to keep in mind is that this site is not telling you what level you are currently writing at. It uses word choices, sentence and syllable length to gauge what level someone could comfortably read what you wrote at.

"Now here is a tricky situation. If I was to buy an adult coloring book for $20 in Mexico, and colored every picture then immediately sold the book for $40 in the USA. Do you think this violates copyright law?"Now everyone brought up the same point of after you own you should be able to do whatever you want with the coloring book. This is true and as Shawn said it is covered under first sale doctrine. You have the right to to sell, display or dispose of that particular book under this doctrine.

Corey,
ReplyDeleteYour blogs are always a great read. You bring up things, I don't usually think of, but when I hear or read about them they seem so relevant. I have never thought about reading level and blog post. It makes me wonder what my writing is at. I have improved since high school, but I know I have a long way to go. I love to use filler words, on accident! I will have to put more consideration into whom I'm writing to.
Thanks,
Nicole
Thanks for the answer on the copy right law; I was wondering about that.
